HOW TO USE
- Prepare your pet’s coat by brushing it thoroughly with a regular brush to remove any large knots or tangles, which allows the flea comb to glide more smoothly.
- Comb over a light surface, such as a white towel or bathtub, to easily spot any fleas or black specks that fall off.
- Comb slowly through the hair, making sure the teeth reach the skin, and follow the direction of hair growth. Pay close attention to warm, dark “hot spots” like around the neck, base of the tail, groin, and armpits.
- Inspect the comb after each stroke for black specks or live fleas. Black specks, known as “flea dirt,” are flea feces containing digested blood.
- Test for flea dirt by placing any black specks on a damp white paper towel. If the specks turn a reddish-brown color, it confirms they are flea dirt.
- Eliminate fleas caught in the comb by dunking it into a bowl of hot, soapy water. This will drown them.
- Clean the comb thoroughly after each use. Remove the bulk of the hair and soak the comb for about 10 minutes in hot, soapy water or a pet-safe disinfectant, then rinse and dry it before storage.
